how we build it

How the GenAI Directory works

We turn publicly available information about AI tools, models, datasets and services into clear, consistent listings built for agriculture and food.

Source-based. Structured. Transparent.

INCLUSION CRITERIA

What we include

The GenAI Directory includes publicly documented AI resources with a clear or credible application to agriculture and food.

Products & Platforms
Models
Datasets
APIs & Developer Tools
Agents & Automation Tools
Simulation & digital twins
Services & Solution Providers
Other Relevant Resources

What qualifies for inclusion

Be publicly documented

Have a clear agriculture or food application

Have an identifiable source, publisher or provider

Give users a way to learn more from the original source

Built specifically for agriculture? Not necessarily.

A resource does not need to have been created exclusively for agriculture or food. If it has a clear, supportable application to the industry, it may qualify.

Submission does not guarantee inclusion.

Where the information comes from

Listings are built from publicly available source material.

Sources may include:

Provider or publisher websites

Product and technical documentation

Research or project pages

Public repositories

Published pricing or access information

Other publicly available source material

From source material to a useful listing

We organize that information into a consistent format, connect the resource to relevant agriculture and food uses, and link back to the original source wherever possible.

REVIEW DATES

Where possible, we record the review date so you have context on how current a listing may be.

What you'll find in a listing

Each listing is designed to help you quickly understand what a resource is, who it's for and whether it's worth exploring further.

what it does

The problem it addresses, its main capabilities and the inputs or outputs involved.

Who it's for

The intended users and where it may fit across agriculture and food.

What kind of resource it is

For example, a product, model, dataset, API, developer tool or service.

How you access it

Commercial, free, open source, approval-based or developer access.

How it runs

Hosted, self-hosted, downloadable or integrated into another system.

Where it fits

Relevant use cases, agriculture and food areas, and technology categories.

How we organize the directory

The Directory is organized around several paths so you can start with the problem, industry area, solution type or technology that matters to you.

By what you're trying to accomplish

Start with the work you need to get done, such as planning production, conducting research, diagnosing problems or supporting decisions.

By where you work

Explore areas such as crop production, livestock, food and nutrition, irrigation and water, markets and finance, or crop protection.

By solution type

Separate ready-to-use products and platforms from resources that require development or integration, and from service providers.

By technology category

Explore applications, agents, models, datasets, APIs, simulation tools and other technical resource types.

A single resource may appear in more than one area. That is intentional because many AI tools support multiple users, workflows and parts of agriculture and food.

How search works

Search is designed to help you start with the problem, not just a product name.

SEARCH BY

Problem · Workflow · Use case · Technology type · Product or provider

TRY SEARCHES LIKE
Plan irrigation
Detect disease in crops
Analyze cattle records
Forecast commodity prices

Search runs across Directory listing content, not providers' live websites. Results reflect the information captured in the directory.

TRANSPARENCY

What we do not do

We do not independently test every resource

Inclusion does not mean 9 North has tested the product, validated its performance or confirmed every provider claim. Unless a listing says otherwise, capability descriptions are based on publicly available source material.

We do not determine suitability

We describe what a resource does. We do not decide whether it fits your operation, data or budget.

Inclusion is not the same as endorsement

A listing means a resource meets our inclusion criteria. It does not mean 9 North recommends it, ranks it or vouches for the provider.

KEEPING LISTINGS CURRENT

How we handle updates

AI changes quickly, and listings will not all be updated at the same time.

Where possible, we show when a listing's source information was reviewed so you have context on how current it may be.

Listings may be updated when:

New public information becomes available

A provider submits updated information

A user flags a potential error

Our ongoing directory work surfaces a material change

TRUST

Featured, sponsored and recommended content

The Field Guide may include clearly labeled featured listings, sponsored content or other paid visibility. Over time, 9 North may also independently review or recommend specific resources. These are separate from core directory inclusion.

Core directory

Included based on the Field Guide's listing criteria.

Featured or sponsored

Indicates paid visibility and will always be clearly labeled.

Recommended or endorsed

Indicates that 9 North has applied a separate evaluation process or criteria.

Paid visibility does not automatically result in a recommendation or endorsement. Users should always be able to distinguish between core directory inclusion, paid placement and any independent 9 North evaluation.
